About the Book: Saved by a Fae

When Lottie buys a quiet house in the woods, she has no idea danger is waiting just beyond the trees.

Errol, a Seelie fae, tracks a strange scent and finds her under attack by an Unseelie creature. After rescuing her, he reveals a hidden world Lottie never knew existed.

But the truth runs deeper; Lottie is the daughter of the Unseelie queen, her memories magically suppressed. As danger closes in, uncovering her past could either save her… or destroy everything.

BookHookup Review: Saved by a Fae

Saved by a Fae (Fae of the Hazel Woods Prequel) by Layla K. Wood is a good, quick read that introduces an intriguing fae world with strong potential for the series. At 74 pages, it moves fast while still giving readers a sense of the stakes and the larger story to come.

The characters are enjoyable, and the dynamic between Lottie and Errol works well. However, I did find myself wishing for a bit more depth and development, especially given the emotional weight of Lottie’s situation.

The story itself is engaging, with a compelling premise and enough tension to keep the pages turning. It effectively sets up the larger conflict involving the Unseelie queen and Lottie’s hidden identity.

The overuse of speech tags (he said, she whispered, etc.) was distracting at times. Tagging nearly every line of dialogue made the exchanges feel mechanical and slowed the pacing. A lighter touch—using action beats, context, and well-placed tags would help the dialogue flow more naturally and would have added the other half star to my rating.

Overall, this is a solid prequel that lays the groundwork for the series and leaves you curious to see where the story goes next.

BookHookup Content Note

Fantasy/romantasy with themes of danger, identity, and magical conflict. Some peril and violence, but not graphic.
