The Case of the Bullfighting Builder is a cozy, small‑town mystery filled with heart, family secrets, and an amateur sleuth you can’t help but root for. With steady pacing, likeable characters, and a pair of intertwined investigations, this story delivers both comfort and suspense in all the right ways.
About the Book
When Cathy Jefferson’s builder is found dead at the site of her soon‑to‑be home, she’s drawn into a murder investigation that quickly becomes more personal than she ever expected. While sorting through her grandmother’s attic, Cathy uncovers a long‑buried secret about her parents’ deaths—one that suggests their tragic car accident was no accident at all.
With two mysteries unfolding at once, Cathy teams up with her close friends and fellow PIs, Nancy and Howard. Their search for answers leads them to a ranch with a prize bull, an estranged uncle, and a college roommate whose reappearance raises even more questions. As danger closes in, Cathy discovers that the truth she’s been seeking may be more shocking than she imagined.
Book Review
The unusual title caught my attention immediately, and I’m happy to say it fits the story perfectly. The Case of the Bullfighting Builder is a cozy mystery that delivers exactly what I love: likeable characters, steady pacing, and twists that genuinely surprised me.
Cathy is a relatable sleuth with real‑world flaws that make her feel human. She’s juggling a lot in this book. Her new home, her grandmother’s household, and two murder cases, one of which hits painfully close to home. Nancy and Howard serve as her anchors, offering both detective support and emotional steadiness. I also enjoyed Cathy’s grandmother, whose gentle advice and presence add warmth and even influences the plot in meaningful ways.
The pacing is just right, not rushed, not slow, and the dual mysteries work together beautifully. I didn’t see the resolution of her parents’ case coming, and the way the two investigations intersected kept the story moving with plenty of unpredictable turns.
The ranch and bullfighting backdrop adds a unique flavor while still maintaining the small‑town Buttercup Bend charm. Even as a newcomer to the series, I had no trouble jumping in, and now I’m interested in exploring more books in this world.
