About the Book: Shattered Mind
Shattered Mind (A Cooper Trace FBI Suspense Thriller—Book 1) by Ella Swift introduces FBI Agent Cooper Trace, a gifted investigator known for his ability to solve complex cases.
But Cooper is hiding a devastating secret—he’s been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
As a serial killer leaves behind victims surrounded by shattered mirrors, Cooper must decode the meaning behind the chilling signature while racing against time. With another young woman’s life at stake, he faces a dual battle: catching a killer before they strike again and holding onto his own fading mind long enough to do it.
BookHookup Review: Shattered Mind
Shattered Mind delivers a gripping, suspense-filled ride with an intriguing premise.
The tension is immediate and sustained throughout. The combination of a serial killer investigation and a protagonist battling early-onset Alzheimer’s creates a compelling sense of urgency. Cooper isn’t just racing to stop a killer—he’s racing against his own deteriorating mind.
The antagonist adds another layer of intensity, especially for readers who enjoy psychological thrillers featuring behavioral complexity and unsettling motives.
The premise is one of the book’s strongest elements. A brilliant investigator slowly losing his cognitive abilities is a powerful concept, and it adds emotional stakes to the procedural elements of the story.
That said, I found myself wanting to be brought deeper into Cooper’s thought process. While he is clearly gifted, I would have appreciated more insight into how he deduced certain conclusions. Being inside his reasoning would have strengthened both the mystery and the connection to his character.
There are also some proofreading issues that occasionally pulled me out of the story—for example, the protagonist’s name appears incorrectly in a few places.
Overall, Shattered Mind is a suspenseful and engaging start to the series, especially for readers who enjoy psychological thrillers with high stakes and complex protagonists.
BookHookup Content Note
