About the Book: Weighing a Miracle

Weighing a Miracle by Steven Nimocks follows Caleb ben Josiah, a merchant whose life is grounded in precision, weights that balance, contracts that hold, and truths that can be measured.

When his close friend Lazarus dies, Caleb steps in to handle the practical needs of the grieving family. Loss is something he understands. It can be accounted for.

But when the tomb is found empty, and Lazarus returns alive, Caleb is faced with something no scale can measure.

As grief, memory, and undeniable evidence collide, Caleb must confront a reality that challenges everything he has built his life upon.

BookHookup Review: Weighing a Miracle

Weighing a Miracle by Steven Nimocks is a beautifully written, introspective story that draws readers deep into one man’s struggle to reconcile logic with the impossible.

This is not a fast-paced or action-driven novel. Instead, it unfolds with a slow, deliberate rhythm that mirrors Caleb’s methodical nature. His internal thought process carries the story, and it works remarkably well. I was fully engaged in how he processed each moment, each contradiction, and each shift in understanding.

I cared.

Caleb is a compelling and relatable character. His reliance on structure and measurable truth, especially in the face of grief, feels authentic and grounded. Watching that foundation begin to crack under the weight of something he cannot explain creates a quiet but powerful tension throughout the story.

For readers familiar with the biblical account of Lazarus, there is an added depth of anticipation. Knowing what is coming makes Caleb’s journey even more impactful as he struggles to make sense of the impossible standing before him.

Fans of The Chosen, the faith based Christian TV series, will especially appreciate this approach. Like the series, the story focuses less on spectacle and more on the human response; how ordinary people process extraordinary events.

The worldbuilding is seamless and immersive. Historical and cultural details are well-balanced, creating a vivid setting without ever feeling overdone. From travel and trade, especially the olive oil commerce, to family dynamics and religious life during the time of Christ, the setting feels authentic and naturally woven into the story. It enhances both the themes and Caleb’s personal journey.

The themes of faith, trust, and personal growth remain clear and consistent throughout. The contemplative tone fits the story perfectly, offering a reflective reading experience that aligns well with Christian fiction audiences.

Weighing a Miracle ultimately explores what happens when certainty fails, and how faith, grief, and truth intersect in ways we cannot always measure.

This is a thoughtful, character-driven story that lingers long after the final page.
