A charming, lightly suspenseful cozy mystery with a classic setup — a train full of strangers, a sudden murder, and a heroine who never meant to become a sleuth. Railroaded into Murder blends friendship, curiosity, and a dash of danger into an enjoyable, easy read perfect for fans of travel‑based whodunits.
About the Book
Marigold Thorne never expected to inherit a seaside inn, and she certainly didn’t expect her journey to Wisteria Bay to begin with a murder. With only a suitcase, a train ticket, her golden retriever Biscuit, and her best friend Tilly by her side, Mari boards the train ready for a fresh start.
But when a sharp‑tongued socialite is found dead — locked inside her compartment with secrets that refuse to stay buried — Mari is thrust into a mystery she can’t ignore. Surrounded by strangers, trapped on a moving train, and racing toward a new life she hasn’t even begun, she must uncover the truth before the killer slips away at the final stop.
BookHookUp Review
Railroaded into Murder by Fiona Larkspur has a wonderfully engaging premise: a murder on a train, a cast of strangers with hidden motives, and a heroine whose past as an antiques dealer gives her a unique eye for detail. I especially loved the ending — it ties the threads together in a satisfying way and sets up Mari’s future in Wisteria Bay beautifully.
Mari, Tilly, and Biscuit make a delightful trio. Their banter, loyalty, and warmth give the story heart, and Biscuit adds charm (and a few smiles) throughout. The mystery itself is fun and twisty, though at times the plot feels a bit contrived, as if events are nudged into place rather than unfolding naturally. And yes, I did occasionally wonder how Biscuit managed a 24‑hour train ride without a bathroom break.
Still, the overall experience is enjoyable. The setting is cozy, the characters are likable, and the mystery keeps you turning pages. Readers who enjoy gentle suspense, friendship‑driven stories, and travel‑based cozies will find plenty to appreciate here.
