Animis Rising is an epic fantasy with a fierce, adventurous spirit at its core. Alexa’s journey as a cat animis, raised by bandits, marked by cruelty, and thrust into a war she never asked for, makes for an emotionally engaging read with rich lore and compelling concepts. While the story shines in worldbuilding and character heart, it does need editing on several levels. Still, I found myself immersed and reading to the end, and I would pick up the next book.

It’s imaginative, layered, and full of potential. The emotional core of Alexa’s arc is heartfelt, and the concept behind her growth is strong, though occasionally uneven. Even so, her determination and vulnerability kept me invested.
The pacing varies: some scenes feel drawn out and slow the momentum, while others move past key moments too quickly, leaving questions about how events unfolded. The shifts between present and past tense are noticeable and can pull the reader out of the story. Editing is needed on multiple levels—basic proofreading, structural refinement, and some line editing to remove repetition and improve clarity.
Despite these issues, the story’s adventurous tone and immersive world kept me reading. The ending is satisfying, tying up major threads while leaving the door open for the next book, which I would read.
