Crown of Dragons (Age of Sorcerers Book 5)

Morgan Rice’s fifth book in the Age of the Sorcerers series does not disappoint. I give Crown of Dragons 5 stars as the continuation of the story of the royals of the Northern kingdom navigate the perils of the occupation of the Southern kingdom’s forces.

I’m amazed at how Rice masterfully weaves a multitude of plot threads and still holds the reader’s attention with so many things going on. I never felt lost or confused. Instead, I hungered to know what happens next for every character. 

In Crown of Dragons, I was happy to see the dragons playing a larger role, as well as more of the reluctant hero, Devin, who was introduced in the first book and only marginally involved until now. He’s an underdog of sorts, gifted in ways he doesn't fully understand and is certainly on a hero’s journey.

Rice provides a spark of magic with several complex characters. The story is unique, interesting, and masterfully merges their paths to add depth to the plot with twists and turns that have me running alongside the character trying to catch my breath.

As mentioned in the reviews of the previous four books in this series, the only thing I find disappointing is that the story isn’t brought to closure but is more episodic. But with that said, I must add that I find the story captivating enough to continue on to the next book.

 
If you are a fantasy reader who enjoys medieval-type settings filled with wizards, dragons, royals, nobles, and peasant folk then this book is for you. And of course, there is the smattering of love in the works on more than one front. I’m ready for Shield of Dragons, book six.

Dame Arinna sparks bold, disarming in chamber as she is in combat. When night fills with sound, a curse settles upon the land. Come face to face with mortality, Lady Fidelity Daemon must employ the priestly expertise of warrior protectors. Fine pace, engaging dialogue and insightful writing, not to mention excerpts as if fresh from Fight School, all rally to affirm Teel James Glenn’s convincing and unsullied charm; his ability to write something sombre with levity without shrugging off its weight.

The Daemonhold Curse opens new insight to a medieval world fenced in tradition. The mantra and ceremony of the religion of Kova parallel in notice finely sequenced fight scenes across the novel. The inspired story does not fail to whet my appetite for more Teel James Glenn, including Gift of the Mage Eye: A Story of Altiva. The Daemonhold Curse is a refreshing read as seldom isn’t for a capable, convinced author who does not shudder to employ wit.

More About the Book

Five years ago the Kova Warrior Priest Lord Erique Shoutte: failed to save the elder Daemon sister, Lady Caution. The curse of a long ago accused sorceress states that each female member of the line will die, drained of blood, before the morning of their 21^th birthday. No female Daemon has survived that morning in three hundred years.

Now the younger sister, Fidelity seeks Lord Shoutte out to protect her as her 21^th birthday approaches.

“Why me?” Lord Shoutte asks. “I failed!”

“Because then you didn’t believe,” she replies. Now you do!”

Lord Shoutte and his long time friend the fierce swordswoman Dame Arinna Cabal undertake to save Fidelity, despite the attacks of religious radicals and thugs. But can they solve the mystery and save the new Lady Daemon or will they fall victim to The Daemonhold Curse themselves?
